Workshop Series Hosted by Lorrie Smith-Douglas
God, our original Creator, celebrates our creativity!
It gives Him great joy to see us sharing our gifts with others.

Lorrie Smith-Douglas
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Hi! I’m Lorrie!
I’m a mom of two beautiful daughters, and the daughter of two amazing prayer warriors!
I’m a recently retired French & visual arts teacher, and I’ve presented various visual arts workshops for teachers both at the board level and provincially (OMLTA -Ontario Modern Languages Teachers Association).
Trauma, loss & illness have brought me closer to God; it has been quite a journey! I’ve been searching for ways to share my love of God and my love of art with our Christian community.
Michelle and I have been talking about this for a while now, and I’m so excited for our “coffee & create” workshops to begin!
Maybe you’re searching for your God given creative abilities, or you’re eager to explore new ways to demonstrate the creative possibilities within yourself!
The last Saturday of each month, we’ll meet a new artist/presenter, and learn how to create various types of art. We hope you’ll join in the fellowship & fun this fall!

Meet Catherine

A bit about Catherine:
Catherine has always been an active member of the art community. She has survived several battles with cancer which has caused her to see the dichotomy of fragility and strength within the natural world.
Her work is fuelled by her belief that the beauty of the natural world around us is evidence of an intelligent creator.
Her latest body of work ,which is based on the bold designs and fragile structures of butterfly wings, was featured at the MCC earlier this year.
How amazing is our God, to have created all of the tiny, exquisitely beautiful & unique creatures- such as butterflies!
September Workshop
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th 10:00am - 1:00pm
Come & paint a monarch butterfly with Catherine Brassard!
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”
Job 12:7-10
Join us as Catherine draws our attention to the intricate details in the beautiful monarch butterfly, and guides us step by step to paint our very own “specimen”, using acrylic paint & brushes on paper.
No experience required! Just join us for some creative fun & fellowship together.
Cost: $25

Meet Carrie

Carrie Marchand is a chaplain at a local county-run seniors’ home and has been part of the community for more than 30 years.
She and her husband, Ken, have raised four children and are active members of Covenant Christian Community Church, where Carrie serves on the worship team. She is also part of a local art co-op. Self-taught, Carrie began her artistic journey during a challenging season marked by multiple failed knee surgeries, lengthy recoveries, chronic pain, and a connective tissue disorder.
Through these experiences, her faith has been challenged and refined, and art has become both a refuge and a form of worship.
Watercolour is Carrie’s favourite medium, while mixed media allows her to create larger works when mobility permits. Inspired by Scripture, worship music, prayer, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, her deeply personal pieces explore struggle, healing, hope, and faith. She incorporates watercolour, handmade papers, dried flowers, maps, gel prints, Scripture, song lyrics, and found objects—including naturally shed snake skin, symbolizing the struggles we face on earth. Her most recent mixed media work was sold at the Orillia International Women’s Day Art Show.
October Workshop
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28th 10:00am - 12:30pm
Come & explore mixed media with Carrie Locke-Marchand.
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” Psalms 73:26
Blessed Layers - Where Scripture, Song, and Story Meet
Join Carrie for an introduction to spirit-led mixed media art. Through demonstration, storytelling, and hands-on creation, participants will explore ways to combine paint, collage, Scripture, words, texture, and meaningful objects into a unique visual expression of their own journey.
This workshop is less about creating a perfect piece of art and more about learning to listen, reflect, and create from a place of authenticity and faith.
As we create together, participants will be invited to consider how art can become a form of prayer, worship, and personal reflection. Whether you are celebrating, grieving, healing, questioning, or simply seeking a deeper connection with God, mixed media art offers a powerful way to express what words alone cannot.
Come explore, create, and discover how God may speak through the layers of your story.
Cost: $25
